We had dozens of people stop by to learn more and we left with a long list of sign-ups for the chapter’s listserv. The booth included a lot of information about the chapter, as well as materials pertaining to local services and programs for Spanish speaking communities. We also featured the newly created chapter website with our beautiful new logo and a great set of pins in both English and Spanish – one said, “Yo Amo Leer” and it was quite popular.
Of the people who stopped by, many were already on the listserv and were very enthusiastic about our chapter, but there were quite a few who did not know about REFORMA and were very excited that a network like ours exists - about 1/3 of people who stopped by signed up for the listserv!
We had a number of requests for assistance with collection development of Spanish language materials such as book recommendations, vendor information, as well as questions about Spanish language library resources such as pamphlets and flyers, and of course, we also had requests for community project ideas. There is definitely a need within the profession to be filled, and conference attendees were thrilled that REFORMA OR is willing and able to provide a network of support.
Hopefully we will be able to host another booth at next year’s OLA conference, and maybe even present a session as well about the REFORMA OR Chapter and our members’ great work with Oregon’s Latino/a and Spanish speaking community.
And, here are a few more photos of our booth …
